Stacey Campbell led a team of 20 (including her 17-year old son, Judah) to one of the world’s most impoverished nations – Mozambique. Participating in Heidi and Rolland Baker’s hard-core school for missions, the team gained hands-on experience, working daily at the children’s home and in the surrounding villages. “There we were in the middle of nowhere – no running water, no electricity, thatched roof and straw houses – in total poverty and almost the whole village became Christians.” For Stacey’s report of this amazing missions trip click here.

Congratulations Heroes!

We’ve been running hard and fast to spread the word that “1.2 billion children at risk cannot be ignored”, and we thought it was high time to let you, the HEROES, in on the good news…

To the end of August, 2006, we have SENT OUT over 2 million dollars to assist the widows, orphans and refugees. The most amazing part is that we haven’t received many large donations: $45,000.00 per month comes from our child sponsors, and most of the rest is from individuals or small groups raising $100.00 or $1000.00 or $10,000.00 for a building project. Everyday, ordinary people doing what they can to help – and it sure adds up! On top of that we have businessmen and others who support our administrative costs, enabling us to send 100% of all projects funds received directly to the project. On behalf of the thousands of orphans that have been helped through your generosity – THANK YOU!

A team from Peter’s Creek Community Church in Alaska went to Nyahururu, Kenya to visit the dormitory that they funded at the Heroes of the Nation Children’s Home. They took 370 t-shirts, and spent several days helping the children each make their own, individualized shirt. For children who dress in uniforms, and have virtually no personal possessions, this was a very special gift for them. To view a photo album of this Hero Holiday, click here.

300 young people (including another Campbell son, Joab), joined in this year’s Hero Holiday to Dominican Republic, where they participated in building a school for a village, helped with medical clinics and feeding programs, and assisted in caring for orphans. Here’s what one of the group wrote during the trip:” We took a team to Puerto Plata Dump and brought 90 hot meals of chicken, rice and beans. We had so much fun interacting with the people even though most of us don’t understand the language. As I walked up the hill to where some of the homes were, I tried to imagine what it must be like to wake up each morning and call this place home. It’s a dump. No one should have to live here. Their homes are constructed with garbage. There is no where to get away from the smell, but yet as we visited with the people, we forgot about the smell. We sang and danced and played games. They are so poor; yet they have joy that is not determined by what they have or don’t have. It is an honour to look them in the eyes, hold their hands and call them friends.” Another 300 Canadian teens changed for life! To sign up for Dominican Republic 2007, click here

Bill Clinton, Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, Mia Farrow, Craig and Mark Keilburger are a few of the world’s voices that you will hear at this inaugural event, to raise awareness, and convince decision-makers that the time has now come to take concrete action for our children.

This first annual conference, hosted by Be A HERO Director Daniel Germain, will bring together people from all walks of life with a common goal – to improve the lives of children everywhere.  The line-up of powerful speakers will educate and inspire you, and a performance by the African Children’s Choir will touch your heart.  For further information and registration, click here.

Here’s one of the children taken in at our home in Ethiopia

We have a crisis in Ethiopia – we have taken in 300 children who would otherwise die. We took them, without first arranging sponsorships, due to their desperate situation. We need 300 sponsors today! Will you sponsor one of them? Will you sponsor two of them? Will you ask your friends to sponsor one? These children need medical care, education, nourishing food in their bellies, and someone to love and care for them. Send us an email at info@beahero.org.
